Sep 19, 04:06 AM: International Talk Like a Pirate Day

Today is ‘Talk like a Pirate Day’ so try to greet everyone with a hearty “Ahoy matey!” International Talk Like a Pirate Day (ITLAPD) was invented in 1995 by John “Ol’ Chumbucket” Baur and Mark “Cap’n Slappy” Summers, who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate.

Personally I think this is a great excuse to call off work strap on your eye patch and parrot and drink rum all day. Not everyone can do that so throwing out an “Arrr!” every once in a while will do. Arrrg yes, it’s a pirate’s life for me cuz like me ol’dad has always said, the best thing about being a pirate is you can get drunk and pee in the ocean!

May 9, 12:34 AM: Beach Trip ‘08

Yesterday I sent out this email…

Because of the problems I had with last years trip I was going to send this email and say something like “should we go…” or possibly “I’m not going to do it…” but you know what? There are always problems surrounding this trip and it’s always a great trip anyway.

So time to start planning my annual beach trip!

At this point I really need to know who is interested to get some details together. Many years I have said that I would take this trip by myself if it came to it but I’m hoping not to have to do that. Everything is tentative at this point but here is the plan…

  • Dates: first weekend in October, drive down on Thursday and back on Monday (my birthday is that Sunday)
  • Location: Regency Towers in Panama City Beach Florida. Nice condo right on the beach.
  • Cost: varies a lot depending on how many go but it will be around $200 per person.

So here is how this will work. We are in the planning stage right now so there is no cost or obligation just let me know if you would like to go or if you would like to change the dates or location or whatever. Is there someone you want to bring along? (wife, girlfriend, roommate, etc.) Once I know who is interested in going etc. I’ll get price quotes for everything and send out another message. At that point I’ll probably need a deposit of some sort (small) and a commitment.

So if you could take a minute right now, reply just to me not everyone (it drives some people nuts when they get 10 email all on the same thing), and let me know what you think. This will be my 9th trip and hopefully the best one yet.

Garrett

I’ve already received these responses…

Responder #1: lol…ok, I’m probably only saying this because I got this email at the perfect moment today…but YES I am interested. Obviously I can’t pay anything until I get a job. But if that causes too much havoc with the plans….I have faith that there will be a 10th trip. :-)

But you’re right to plan it despite any complications. We have to enjoy life, not just work & stress all the time and you’re email was a great reminder of that. So thanks for the email and thanks for keeping the trip alive.

Responder #2: I will be going to school and working part time but I’m sure I can get enough monies together to afford it even if I can only eat ramen noodles while there. Can you still sell plasma? I will also see if I can pull [girlfriend] away this year….

Responder #3: Weird, I did not get this email and only saw it because [Responder #2] ignored your instructions and replied to all! Anyway, I’m still in :)

That makes 5 people who wanna go already so the trip is on! Do you wanna come along?

Apr 7, 01:15 PM: Avenue Q

So I’m back from Atlanta, almost a week now, I am “sofa-king” lazy all I have done in the last week is eat and sleep but did I get around to posting? No!

I had a really great trip! A group of use met in Atlanta so that we could go see Avenue Q at the Fox Theater. I flew down from Pennsylvania and so did Chris and Dwayne. Moon and her hubby Josh flew down from Newport News and we all met up with Judson, Yaz, and Jason, all who live in the Atlanta area, for the show.

We all got in Thursday and meet up out at Jason and Yaz’s place. Friday the gang headed down to the New World of Coca-Cola but I stay behind at J&Y. I was feeling a little out of it and I need to do some running around so I decided to skip Coke and catch up to them later down at Judson’s new place. That night we ate at Maggiano’s Little Italy, one of my all time favorite restaurants. Saturday I hung out at the house with Jason while Yaz did a jewelry show then we all met up again for dinner and games. Rachel and Ben joined us at dinner and hung out with us at Judson’s that night.

Sunday we headed downtown for the show. The Fox is a beautiful theater and Avenue Q is a great show! As long as you have a sense of humor and can handle a couple of “bad” words you will love this show especially if you grew up watching TV shows like Sesame Street and the Electric Company.

Thanks to Jason & Yaz for letting me stay with them and to Judson for being everyone’s personal tour guide.

Mar 9, 02:33 PM: US States Visited

On the drive out to Pittsburgh on Saturday Judson mentioned that he could add another state to his list of US states he had visited. We got to talking about it and I decided to find a map I could color in with all the state I had visited in some way. I think there are 30 here so I’m over half way. I’ve color coded the states the white are the ones I have not yet visited.

  • Purple is my home state Pennsylvania, I was born there, raised there, and lived there most of my life.
  • Blue are places I have actually lived. I live in Charlotte, NC for one year and Atlanta, GA for 10 years.
  • Yellow are states tat I have just driven thru. I know when I was a kid my family took driving vacations thru New England 2 years in a row so I’ve stayed over in some of those states but I don’t really remember.
  • Orange are places that I have visited and stayed. At different time I’ve spent a week visiting my friend Shannon first in Texas then in California. Bob and I went to Vegas on a trip.
  • Red are the states I’ve visited many time over. I have been on several trips to NYC for long weekends. I go to the beach in Florida with my friends every year.

The map is made for coloring I found it at Theodora.com then I just used MS Paint to color in my states. How many States have you visited? I’m sure I’ll visit them all but Hawaii is going to be a tough one.

Mar 3, 11:17 AM: Judson Day One

We had a great time in Pittsburgh yesterday. The Pens beat Atlanta in an overtime shoot out. That will probably be my last trip the Igloo, ever! After this season they will tear the Mellon Arena down for the Penguin new arena.

Feb 27, 10:24 AM: Busy Week

My friend Judson will be visiting from Atlanta next week. Lots of stuff to do and a ton of traveling. Here is a list of what we have scheduled so far, I’ll try to get stuff on the calendar before they happen.

Saturday (March 1)

Judson flies into Pittsburgh this night late and stays over.

Sunday

Bob and I are driving out to Pittsburgh to puck up Judson and then hit the Penguins game at the Mellon Arena. Pens are playing the Atlanta Thrashers! Since I’ll be in Pittsburgh Trivia Gerry will be covering my show at Quaker Steak & Lube.

Monday

No plans so far but it’s my mum’s birthday so we have to do something.

Tuesday

I’ll be doing my show at Champs and Dwayne and Chris are coming down for dinner then stay to play trivia with Judson.

Wednesday

No plans.

Thursday

I think we are going to head up to Dwayne and Chris’ place to hang out and then maybe stay over.

Friday

We have a big game night scheduled up at Dwayne and Chris’. We’ll be coming back to Bob’s that night since we have to head back to Pittsburgh Saturday.

Saturday

I’ll be driving Judson back to Pittsburgh. I’m not sure what our exact schedule is, I know JB is on the late evening flight so we’ll probably be heading out around noon.

Jan 30, 01:34 AM: Trips & State of the Union

Where to begin? I’m headed down to Atlanta in March, dates are on the calendar. Before that trip at the end of the month my friend Judson will be come up here for his first visit at the beginning of the month.

Things are going well here. Trivia has gotten off to a big start; I can’t wait to get a couple of more shows.

New Years Resolutions are off to a very slow start. I’m just getting over a killer of a cold so January is pretty much a wash at this point but I hope for a re-launch of my goals in February.

More soon.
