Another of my favorite web comics is “Girls With Slingshots” by Danielle Corsetto. Danielle is currently taking a one month sabbatical (June ’07) so this would be a good time to get caught up on the old strips. Click here to read the first strip.
It’s a funny strip with an interesting perspective. I find more and more that I really enjoy female writers. I think that the story of where the name of the strip comes from is excellent. It proves my theory that things that just happen are often much better than anything you could have planned.

I randomly started drawing Jamie and Hazel with slingshots (because I can’t draw a gun to save my life) in sketchbooks at conventions, and it just caught on. “Can you draw me one of those slingshot girls?” “When’s the comic book gonna come out?” So I blindly promised someone a Girls With Slingshots comic next… “ohh, October. In a year.” Then I gritted my teeth and thought, “WHAT HAVE I DONE?!”
A year later, after nervously tossing all of my Superheroine ideas out the window, I created the first three strips a few days before the debut date. No guns, no slingshots, not even cheesy outfits (yet!). Thanks to some healthy advice from friends, I kept the meaning of “Slingshots” in GWS vague, a title not to be taken literally, and started a strip that had the same ring as my past slice-o’-life comics.

Danielle has been drawing comic strips pretty much her whole life. She started drawing Garfield like strips when she was 8. She’s now hoping to make GWS her fulltime job. After June she is going to move to a five day schedule with occasional color “Sunday” strips. She is hoping that thru donations and merchandise she will be able to support herself and keep the comic going. I have no money and am similarly under employed but I can promote her on my website to my millions of readers! And by millions I mean (checks Goggle) 41 unique visitors. Do I even know 41 people?
