Mohammad F. Haque aka Hawk is one of my favorite artists on the web. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland and in addition to his full time job as a designer, illustrator and programmer for a firm in D.C. Hawk he does the art for 3 web comics, regularly updates his twitter and flickr account and has a blog. Hawk has also done work for a wide range of people the ‘Penny Arcade’ CCG, a ‘Megatokyo’ poster, and the cover of ‘Ctrl Alt Del’: Vol. 1.
Hawk sites American comic books (Batman, Spiderman, etc.) as one of his main influences, which may be what attracts me to his style. One of the things I have noticed (or picked up) from browsing his flickr page is he makes great use of his digital camera to study things like light and shadow or how liquids flow. Anytime I can soak up some part of someone’s artistic process it’s a joy to me. As Hawk’s comic pages progress from sketch to ink to color he will often post the art in stages so if you visit the site often you can actually watch the art evolve.
