4 days ago: D&D Pod cast

This is great! Wizards that now make ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ invited some web-comic guys in to play the 4th edition D&D game. It’s the writer and artist from Penny Arcaded and Scott Kurtz the creator of PvP. for their second session not only did they record it and break it up for a pod cast but the guys invite Wil Wheaton of Star Trek Infamy to join them.

Language warning! There is a bunch of cursing here but it’s all in good fun.

Part #1
Part #2
Part #3
Part #4
Part #5
Part #6
Part #7
Part #8

I’ve only listened to the first part so far but it’s pretty good from a gamer geek stand point. The old D&D books always had a sample play section where they would script out what the Dungeon Master and players say and do through and encounter. That was always my favorite part to read and this is very similar.

Update

Oop! OK, so the links above are the first session (no Wil Wheaton). Below is the second session which I think only part one is out so far. This is the one I listened to; it’s about a half hour long. I’ll probably post updates after to or 3 new episodes get posted.

12 days ago: PTR Patch 3.2.0 (Paladins)

Paladins

  • Blessing of Sanctuary: This blessing now also increases stamina by 10%. This effect is not cumulative with Blessing of Kings. Pitt says: This is a nice change for pally tanks, now your max health will remain the same whether you have kings up or not.
  • Charger: Can now be learned at level 40.
  • Exorcism: Now has a 1.5 second cast time, but can once again be used on players. Pitt says: This sux! It will still be a good single target pull but it will be next to useless in combat. This is the pvper’s fault.
  • Hand of Reckoning: Redesigned. Now does damage only when the target does not currently have the caster targeted, but damage done increased to 50% of attack power, occurring after the taunt effect is applied. Pitt says: no real change here.
  • Judgement of Light: Now heals for 2% of the attacker’s maximum health instead of a variable amount based on the spell power and attack power of the judging paladin.
  • Lay on Hands: The buff from this ability now reduces the physical damage taken by the target by 10/20% instead of increasing the target’s armor. Pitt says: This should actually read Improved Lay on Hands. It is a nice change, direct damage reduction over the increase in armor.
  • Righteous Fury: No longer has a duration or mana cost, remaining until cancelled or death. Also cancelled when a Paladin activates a different talent specialization. Pitt says: Um, ok? Was this a problem for someone?
  • Sacred Shield: When a paladin casts Flash of Light on a target with this buff, they also now place a heal-over-time effect on the target, healing that target for 100% of the Flash of Light amount over 12 seconds.
  • Seal of Blood: This ability has been removed.
  • Seal of the Martyr: This ability has been removed.
  • Seal of Vengeance and Seal of Corruption: These seals have been redesigned to deal substantially more damage. Now, once a paladin has 5 copies of the debuff from these seals on his or her target, on each swing the paladin will deal 33% weapon damage as Holy, with critical strikes dealing double damage.
  • Shield of Righteousness: Now deals 100% of shield block value as damage instead of 130%. Pitt says: Boo! Boo… Wait, with the change in the block bonuses this might not effect over all damage but until I see actual numbers, BOO!
  • Warhorse: Can now be learned at level 20.
  • Talents
    • Holy
      • Beacon of Light: The healing amount on the Beacon of Light target is now based on the total healing done (including over-healing) instead of the effective healing done. Radius increased to 60 yards. Multiple Paladins can now have this active on the same target. Buff indicating a player is within range of the Beacon target is no longer displayed. Pitt says: Wow big upgrade this will make holy pallys happy.
      • Divine Intellect: This talent now gives 2/4/6/8/10% increased intellect instead of 3/6/9/12/15%. Pitt says: Kiss your mana goodbye.
      • Illumination: This talent now returns 30% of the mana cost of the spell instead of 60%. Pitt says: Once upon a time this actually returned 100% of the mana but a couple of nerfs later we are down to 30%. I wonder if they will get rid of this one altogether someday?
    • Protection
      • Ardent Defender: Redesigned. Currently, any damage taken by the paladin while at 35% health or below is reduced. Instead, any attack that would reduce the paladin to 35% health or below has its damage reduced. In addition, once every 2 minutes an attack that would have killed the paladin will fail to kill, and instead set the paladin’s health to 10/20/30% of maximum. Pitt says: Ok it’s a lot of math but trust me this is much much better. With the high numbers we use in the end game fights this talent was pretty much useless but now it should do what it was originally intended to.
    • Retribution
      • Art of War: Now only applies to melee critical hits, but will make your next Flash of Light or Exorcism instant.
      • Crusader Strike: Damage reduced to 75% weapon damage to match the new 4-second cooldown.
      • Seal of Command: Redesigned. This seal now deals 36% weapon damage on every swing, and deals substantially less judgement damage.
      • Vindication: Redesigned. Now lowers target attack power, is consistent and does not stack with Demoralizing Shout.

Items: General
• Block Value: The amount of bonus block value on all items has been doubled. This does not affect the base block value on shields or block value derived from strength.
• On-Use Block Value Items: All items and set bonuses that trigger temporary increases to block value have been modified. Instead of increasing their block value amount by 100% like other items, they have all had their effect durations doubled. This applies to Glyph of Deflection, Gnomeregan Autoblocker, Coren’s Lucky Coin, Lavanthor’s Talisman, Libram of Obstruction, Tome of the Lightbringer, Libram of the Sacred Shield, the tier-8 paladin Shield of Righteousness bonus, the tier-5 paladin Holy Shield bonus, and the tier-5 warrior Shield Block bonus.

15 days ago: Answer-of-the-Night

ATTENTION ALL TEAM TRIVIA PLAYERS!

Beginning July 1, the free Answer-of-the-Night will be posted a day ahead. For example, if you’re planning on playing on a Friday night, you will need to check the website on Thursday for that answer. This is in response to feedback we’ve received (on more than one occasion) that some people were looking up the free answer DURING the game, with the excuse that “it’s a free answer anyway!” This will prevent that from happening. You’ll still be able to get your free answer; you’ll just need to get it the day before … sort of like a morning radio contest in which you have to know a secret phrase given during a TV show the night before.

UPDATE!

Due to an unbelievable avalanche of negative feedback, the posting of the free Answer-of-the-Night a day ahead, which was to begin July 1, has been scrapped altogether. The Answer of the Night will continue as is. Please be aware that looking up the free answer after the game has started is prohibited, just as any usage of devices for the purposes of finding answers. The fact that so many of you wrote or called about this illustrates how many loyal players Team Trivia has, and we truly appreciate it!

I only ever saw this commercial once on actual TV but it cracked me up so bad I had to go find it. The first time i saw it I thought it was pretty subtle but i had not noticed the plants until more than half way through the AD, but now that I’ve seen it again I see that there is no subtlety here at all.

Still funny thought.

NHL’s Campbell rescinds Malkin suspension

Sunday, 05.31.2009 / 11:48 PM / 2009 Stanley Cup Final: Detroit vs. Pittsburgh

From NHL.com

DETROIT — National Hockey League Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell issued the following statement regarding the instigator penalty assessed to Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin at 19:41 of the third period of tonight’s Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final:

Rule 47.22 states: “A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five minutes or at any time in overtime shall be suspended for one game, pending a review of the incident. The director of hockey operations will review every such incident and may rescind the suspension based on a number of criteria. The criteria for the review shall include, but not be limited to, the score, previous incidents, etc…”

Following that review, Campbell said: “None of the criteria in this rule applied in this situation. Suspensions are applied under this rule when a team attempts to send a message in the last five minutes by having a player instigate a fight. A suspension could also be applied when a player seeks retribution for a prior incident. Neither was the case here and therefore the one game suspension is rescinded…” More.

38 days ago: Summer Trivia Schedule

I currently have 4 shows a week scheduled for this summer. they are…

Provided people turn out to play I don’t expect any cancellations until the break just before the fall semester. The 4th of July falls on a Saturday this year so I don’t think that will effect any of the shows.

I’m hoping to add at least 2 new shows over the summer so if you know a good place for trivia get in touch with me. Sundays are wide open right now, Monday I could do an early show (6 or 7pm), and Wednesday i could add a late show (10pm). Weekends are wide ope too but most location do enough business on Fridays and Saturday to not need things like trivia.

I’m also hiring! I need DJ/Game hosts and subs to work here in State College and in Bloomsburg. The Bloomsburg job is a great opertunity, Harry’s is an excellent show it self and we have serveral other place that would like to strt trivia but we don’t have anyone to do the shows. The first person I hire up there will have his choice of jobs as they come up, you could work as little or as much as you wanted.

45 days ago: Ferocious Attack Kitten

My friend Rachel emailed me this hysterical CraigsList ad and I wanted to share it. Read on!

Ferocious attack kitten is available for adoption to any home willing to accept him.

This destructive kitty has been trained as a proud warrior and will fiercely defend your house, even against you. Well-trained since 9-weeks of age to attack anything in his presence, he will protect your family from all things evil, including the following:

  • insects
  • other trained attack kittens
  • babies
  • toilet paper
  • his own tail
  • anything under a blanket
  • unwanted house guests
  • pesky neurology notes
  • invisible bed bugs
  • floor rugs
  • Chuck Norris
  • Feet.

Great with children (assuming you don’t like the children). Probably best used for professional catfighting. He is housebroken, but only because he wants to be. This attack cat has trained himself to seek out his food anywhere you hide it and rip the bag open to feed himself, great for those who travel extensively. Also trained to drink water out of toilet bowls and dishwater from items in the sink. Knows how to open some doors. He will find you wherever you hide.

Not yet neutered, but must be. Trust me, you won’t want to him to procreate. Has not been declawed, but you’ll figure that out really fast.
Understands and responds to a variety of vulgar and profane verbal commands. Has a very soft and furry belly, like a teddy bear – however he will bite your face off if you try to touch it.

Potential adopters must have experience with trained attack-kittens… please be prepared to show scars.

89 days ago: ShamWOW!

I love the Shamwow commercials with Vince Shlomi, not enough to actually buy a Shamwow, but they still crack me up. This guy looks like Johnny Knoxville’s stun double. I had hear something about him getting into a little trouble so I looked it up. Check this out…

From The Smoking Gum.com

MARCH 27—Meet Vince Shlomi. He’s probably better known to you as the ShamWow Guy, the ubiquitous television pitchman who has been phenomenally successful peddling absorbent towels and food choppers. Shlomi, 44, was arrested last month on a felony battery charge following a violent confrontation with a prostitute in his South Beach hotel room. According to an arrest affidavit, Shlomi met Sasha Harris, 26, at a Miami Beach nightclub on February 7 and subsequently retired with her to his $750 room at the lavish Setai hotel. Shlomi told cops he paid Harris about $1000 in cash after she “propositioned him for straight sex.” Shlomi said that when he kissed Harris, she suddenly “bit his tongue and would not let go.” Shlomi then punched Harris several times until she released his tongue.

Read more here.

This story reminds me of an old joke, “What do you tell a hooker with two black eyes? Nothing, you already told her twice.” I know very poor taste (still funny though). If you’re not familiar with Vince or the Shamwow you can watch the commercial on their official web site here.
